Professional Mountain Guide · Pico Island
Born in Angola to an Italian mother and a Portuguese father, Matteo developed an early relationship with the mountains through time spent in the Italian Alps with his grandfather. At the same time, summers on Pico Island created a lasting connection with the Azores.
After studying Tourism, he moved permanently to Pico in 2014. In 2015, he founded Tripix Azores and began building his professional life around Mount Pico.
Based on Pico Island, Matteo has worked professionally on Mount Pico since 2015, across conditions and seasons. He has completed more than 1,000 ascents of Portugal's highest mountain and accumulated thousands of hours working on its terrain.
Experience is not accumulation. It is attention, responsibility, and the ability to read situations clearly.
His mountain experience also extends to different environments and altitudes across the Alps, Andes, Atlas Mountains and Iberian Peninsula.
In 2015, Matteo founded Tripix Azores — a Pico Island-based company specialising in professionally guided Mount Pico climbs. Through Tripix, the team has guided more than 10,000 participants on the mountain. Matteo continues to lead the company while working actively as a professional mountain guide.
The mountain sets the terms.
